Coming from a long line of aestheticians (mother, grandmother and great-grandmother), it’s no surprise Angelina Umansky, co-founder of Spa Radiance in San Francisco, is one of the most sought after skin specialists in the country with a clientele that reads like Vanity Fair’s who’s who (we’re talking – the Gettys and Michelle Pfeiffer #needisaymore). I sat down with Angelina to get answers to my burning skin care questions – How do I get rid of my neck bands? What can be done about crepey skin? Is the cult favorite, Biologique Recherche a nontoxic line and if so, which products do you recommend…

Generally, I avoid harsh acids like the plague. My sensitive, frail skin time and again has been burned and sensitized by strong acids so I typically opt for physical exfoliants, like this one from Tammy Fender (LOVE) or the Ayuna Essence (which I review down below). BUT last night, fed up with the persistent little clogged bumps on my cheeks and forehead, I decided to give the AHA/BHA REN Ready, Steady, Glow AHA Daily Toner a go (gasp!). At first, I was scared, fearing the worst. The REN toner is the type of product, usually sent to me by a PR rep, that…

Whenever I use Therapi Honey Skincare’s Ultra Radiance Propolis+ Cream, I’m reminded of long ago when I used to use Creme De La Mer Moisturizing Cream. The rich texture is similar, as is the decadent feeling of luxury when applied, but the similarities between the two creams ends there. To this day, I am stunned whenever I see people raving about La Mer when there…

My attitude towards makeup has shifted so much as I’ve gotten older. Easy, quick, effortless and imperfect is how I like my makeup now. I think there’s something sexy and womanly about imperfect makeup because it exudes confidence. It’s kinda like saying to the world – “I don’t need to try that hard to feel good in my skin” – which is a beautiful thing IMO. So for my birthday this past weekend, I pulled together this easy makeup look in five minutes for perhaps the last “adult fine dining” experience my hubs and I will have for…

For the past two weeks, I have been using nothing but shea butter on my skin morning and night aka “My Shea Butter Experiment.” It sounds easy enough, but for a beauty blogger who is used to a ten-step (or more) routine, using only one product takes serious restraint and laser focus. Before I get into the ‘what’, ’how’ and final results of my experiment, I want to explain the why – specifically – why I decided to conduct this experiment. The WHY Three weeks ago, nothing was alleviating my dry, inflamed skin. I mean, nothing. Temporary relief was possible with layers…
