When I first started exploring green beauty brands back almost a year ago, Maya Chia was one of the first ones I tried and I’ve been in love with the brand ever since. Founded by, Susanne Norwitz, a thoughtful, meticulous, genius formulator, who takes her time with each launch, the brand’s products incorporate the nourishing benefits of chia seed oil extracted with a proprietary “supercritical” method that leaves intact a higher percentage of the oil’s nutrients.
You can tell Susanne really thinks about what her audience wants, not just pumping out product after product. Each piece in the line has a purpose, a place and does something better than what’s currently on the market with nontoxic, clean values in mind.
For the longest time, the brand’s Supercritical Chia Seed Oil & Supercritical Chia Seed Body Oil were my two favorites, but I think the line’s two new launches, The Highlight Of The Day Illuminating Serum – After Hours and The Highlight Of The Day Illuminating Body Serum, may have just bumped their way into first place. The subtle shimmer they impart is so enchantingly beautiful. I can’t imagine anything more perfect to get me through summer. Read on for the full review of both.
Product: Maya Chia The Highlight Of The Day – After Hours
Best for: Warmer skin tones for a natural look; lighter skin tones for a more dramatic contoured look
Ingredients: Supercritical Chia (Salvia hispanica) Seed Oil, Brassica Oleracea (Broccoli) Seed Oil, Capriylic/ Capric Triglyceride, *Calendula Officinalis (Calendula) Flower Extract, *Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Oil, Tocopherol (Vitamin E) Non-GMO, Mica, Iron Oxide, Titanium Oxide, (+/- Iron Oxide) *2% Essential Oils
Review: When Maya Chia launched their first two The Highlight Of The Day Illuminating Serums – Golden Hours & Happy Hour, I liked them, but I wasn’t in love. The colors were a little too pearly and light for my olive/warm skin tone. Testing them felt like heartbreak because I wanted to love them so much, but found I didn’t use them regularly due to the lightness of the colors.
Thankfully, in comes their newest color addition for summer – After Hours – sweeping me off my feet! The mix of rose, bronze and pearl pigments has me on my knees and is the most flattering color highlighter to cross my path! When applied, the mineral pigments blur out the subtle post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and discoloration on my cheeks giving me the appearance of even, glowing, smooth skin.
This highlighter is going to be my go-to product for the summer since the chia seed oil will keep my skin hydrated and prevent trans-epidermal water-loss (Annals of Dermatology), and the subtle glow gives just enough radiance that I can forego bronzer and all over foundation.
With just a little concealer here and there and this highlighter, perhaps a little swipe of blush, too, my skin looks naturally glowing. Love. Love. LOVE this highlighter.
Scent: Very subtle floral from the calendula
Tip: Usually, I try to avoid essential oils because they can be irritating for my sensitive skin, but the very small amount of them in this highlighter does not irritate at all. I would recommend this as a great product for sensitive skin types!

Review: I have written extensively about my love for the Maya Chia Supercritical Body Oil and it’s ability to banish dry skin, strengthen the skin’s barrier and improve chronic dry skin over time with its powerful antioxidant and omega rich chia seed oil. So, it should come as no surprise that the line’s newest limited edition Illuminating Body Oil has also become a fast fave.
The body oil’s rose gold shimmer is the perfect balance between pearlized mica and dewy gold. It gives a subtle, silky and sophisticated shimmer – no chunky glitter here. It also slightly evens out the tone of my pasty pale legs. Though, it does not advertise itself as body makeup, I personally notice the mineral sheen blurs out skin blotchiness.
Also, it won’t wash off when you go swimming! I noticed while showering that the shimmer stayed on my body. It washes off with soap.
This oil is the perfect compliment to bare skinned summer outfits, so be sure to pick this oil up while supplies last!
Scent: Uplifting, citrusy, bright notes of neroli and sweet orange
Texture: Light, watery, thin-oil; blends seamlessly
Tip: Apply mixed with body lotion for a sheer glow, or with a drop or two of the Maya Chia After Hours for more intensity
