There was a time when ‘face mist’ meant Evian Spray Water or, well, actually only that. Now misting has become its own skincare category (and interchangeable with toners). There are face mists that calm irritation, brighten complexions, set or fresh makeup and/or add moisture to dull lifeless skin suffering at the hands of dry air, pollution, or harsh winds. Moisturizing in the morning used to be enough, or so we thought, but now we know (thanks Korean skincare influence) that keeping skin hydrated throughout the day with a hydrating face mist is the key to dewy, youthful skin. After all, wrinkles do form faster when skin is dehydrated and its ability to produce collagen and elastin becomes impaired. (Yikes!) So get to misting. Here’s how and what to use…

After cleansing to help serums, moisturizers and whatever else you’re slathering on absorb better. (Case and point: Ever try rubbing in body oil on bone-dry skin? The pulling, tugging and poor absorption of said oil can be avoided if you apply when your skin is still damp post shower. Trust us.)

After applying makeup to set and give a dewy (not powdery) glow.

Throughout the day to refresh makeup, rehydrate and tone uncomfortable or tight skin.

Before bed is a great time to use hydrating mists with calming aromatherapy actives, like lavender, chamomile, or eucalyptus.
