New York City Beauty Guide – Part 4: The Best Green Beauty Makeover at Savor + Beauty

new york makeup artistI walked into Savor + Beauty, the West Village neighborhood clean beauty store and spa, on Sunday morning for the spa’s signature Green Beauty Makeover looking rough. The previous evening included a salty, albeit a delicious dinner at Ravagh Persian Grill in midtown that wasn’t doing me any favors and one, two, okay, three glasses of red wine with friends at the darkly lit, gritty Ten Degrees Bar in the east village. Little red splotches from dehydration and dark under eye circles graced me with their company as I tried to avoid reflective surfaces. I can still remember a decade ago being twenty-one and genuinely confused as to why anyone would need under eye concealer?! Oh, how naive and ignorantly blissful I was. Luckily, there’s makeup for my aging woes and for you green beauty lovers, there’s Lucie at Savor + Beauty.

Lucie, Savor’s resident makeup artist/assistant manager, greeted me with a smile and quirky, cheery “hello!” reminiscent of LA, not quite New York, sat me down in her makeup chair and placed a glass of hot tea in my hands. Grateful, I sipped quietly while she examined what to do with my nightmarish appearance.

Over the next forty-five minutes, Lucie applied a bevy of organic, nontoxic makeup: Vapour Organic Beauty’s Atmosphere Luminous Foundation all over; Vapour’s Illusionist Concealer to cover my post acne red marks; a light dusting with Alma Pure’s Pressed Foundation; flushed my cheeks with Antonym Certified Organic Baked Blush; gave me a daytime soft doe eyed look with muted browns from Antonym’s Noisette palette and Alima Pure’s eye liner; and a soft rose mauve lip she called “the quintessential New York lip color” with Vapour’s Aura Multi Use in Eros.

My mouth was agape by the end. I looked – good. Glowing skin, check. Soft flushing cheeks, check. Rose bitten lips, check. Who is this person staring back at me?! And what black magic has Lucie conjured to age me in reverse?! If you’re on a budget, do not, I repeat, do not have your makeup done by Lucie at Savor + Beauty. You will look so darn good post makeup session you will buy everything. She does not push products in the least, but your reflection sure as hell will. So traverse lightly when you head to this neighborhood green beauty joint. The expert hands, gorgeous products and friendly environment will make you want everything and to have Lucie as a permanent fixture in your bathroom.
