Ah, London. Nestled among cloud-piercing glass skyscrapers the stone cathedrals and tudor style architecture reminds us of your rich heritage. From Roman times to now present day, this gorgeous city has brought us: the ultimate royals; smartly tailored chaps (thanks, Savile Row); a hunger for fish & chips or a good ole meaty banger (yes, the Brits really call sausages bangers); my teenage obsession with Spice Girls (“Do You Wanna” is a classic); and of course, David Beckham, who singlehandedly turned women around the world into devout football (aka soccer to us ‘mericans) fans in the early aughts.
This city has so much to offer, delighting the history buffs and fashionistas alike. And if you find yourself planning a trip across the pond, make sure to read on for our BOND EN AVANT x Oh My Skin London Beauty Guide curated by Yasmina, founder of green beauty blog, Oh My Skin. A Parisienne expat currently residing in London, Yasmina shares with us her local haunts: where she goes for natural beauty finds; the best indulgent spa experience; where the foodies go for a burger; and which cocktail spot offers a breathtaking view of the city.
Beauty Finds & Spa Days
“G Baldwin & Co is an institution of south London and has existed for over 150 years. It’s an amazing old apothecary where you can buy health foods and vitamins in one half, but it’s the other half that is the real treat. This is where I pop in to buy ingredients for my DIY beauty recipes. It’s a treasure trove for botanical and essential oils as well as plants and flowers, basically everything you need to make amazing concoctions.
Content Beauty Wellbeing is a shop located in Marylebone that specializes in niche natural organic beauty products. I love discovering new brands and products here. Marylebone is a lovely area to wander through in general and just a stones throw from the hustle and bustle of Oxford Street.
ESPA Life at Corinthia Hotel is the place I would recommend when you really want to treat yourself. Whenever I have booked some time at ESPA, the other visitors seem to be the cream of the UKs celebrity elite! If you want to spoil yourself, book yourself a spa day here. You’ll feel instantly transported to another world with its amazing pool, sauna, steam room and spectacular treatments. It is like an oasis right in the centre of London!
M1lk is where I like to go for brunch and people watch out of the windows while feasting on their amazing sweet corn fritters, haloumi and avocado (and if I am feeling naughty perhaps adding some hash browns). Everyone else in the world seems to go for the spectacular baked eggs which are amazing too!
If you want a good burger (and there are so many brilliant options in London), then Patty & Bun is my personal favorite. I advise everyone visit their original premises near my favorite department store, Selfridges. There used to be queues outside this restaurant for hours and I have to admit I joined them more than once. Their produce is amazing and the chef knows how to cook a burger to feel fresh and lovely rather than greasy and dirty. However if you want other amazing burgers then there are numerous options all over the city including MEATLiquor, Honest Burgers and Dirty Burger.
I love to spend an afternoon waking around Borough Market; it is a bastion of London life. The market has existed for nearing a thousand years but trust me when I say it’s deserves to have existed for such a momentous time period. There is a gargantuan selection of beautiful produce as well as stalls cooking stunning meals. My particular favorite stall makes amazing empanadas in beef, chicken, spinach and more! There is also a stall that sells one of the best doughnuts I have ever tried; The honeycomb flavor should not be missed but my personal favorite is the simple vanilla. Go to this market and eat everything!!
Drink with a view
If you want to have a drink with an amazing view of London, then I would recommend Franks Cafe in Peckham. This area is quickly becoming the new home of London’s creative community after being priced out of Shoreditch and the bar is situated on the top of an old car park! The walk up can be very interesting and feels like you are in another world until you emerge into the light and see the splendor of London’s architecture stretched out in front of you. While you are in the area check out the creative hub that is the Bussey Building for club nights, music events and artisan designers!”
